Scot McKay coined the term as a happy coincidence, being a life-long enthusiast of both motorcycles and BMX racing. Early on, the acronym originally stood for "Members Of The Opposite Sex". Given the escalation of perceived conflict between men and women in society and culture, Scot wanted to avoid identifying with that trend. Therefore, the word "opposite" in MOTOS was changed to "other".
